Darkest Before the Dawn
The holidays are long gone, yet something miraculous is happening amidst the chill and gloom of January. For the past four months, our household has been besieged by the emotional terrorism of a newly minted Kindergartener. Adjusting to a school routine and holding it together is tough work for a five-year-old, leaving little room for patience and deductive reasoning by the end of the day. On any given evening, our darling child could be smacking his brothers in the head, refusing dinner in disgust, or affectionally narrating our conversations with, “BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!” No joke, this is a kid we used to call Mr. Sunshine. While our tiny tyrant continued his rule from one season to the next, we clenched our teeth and reminded each other, this too shall pass. Two years earlier, as our older son was undergoing a similar mutation, a good friend assured us it would improve after the holidays. Something about returning to school after a brief hiatus was the perfect cure. Sure enough, just as we were filling out paperwork for a psychiatric evaluation, winter break ended, the clouds parted, and our sweet little boy reemerged. Maybe it’s the boost of confidence that comes with experience? Or the passing of winter solstice? Either way, I’m happy to report we’ve made it over the hump once again, enjoying a blissfully peaceful existence these past weeks with our cheerful, non-gremlin child. There’s still plenty of  wrestling, but it’s mostly in good fun. Two down, one to go… 😳

Did you march last weekend? What a feeling! Love these highlights from protests held around the world, including some very creative signs (my personal favorite).
If you can only bear to read one more thing about the Aziz Ansari debate, I highly recommend this piece by a sexual consent educator. And PLEASE watch this Samantha Bee segment. 🙌
As predicted, there was more to this story than placing a hand on a woman’s back.
Speaking of misguided men, this story is insane. Professional implications aside, this man should fear the wrath of his original soul mate (and mother of his three children).
Bravo to Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo on becoming the highest paid actress on television like a BOSS.
With the hibernation season in full swing, this article on how to maintain friendships was a real eye-opener. I don’t want to die of loneliness!
New Yorker columnist Jill Lepore takes a fascinating glimpse into the battle between Barbie and Bratz dolls and how it reflects our larger views on gender in the workplace. Hint: equality is hard!
Be sure to check out Katie Couric’s interview with Congresswoman Maxine Waters this week, discussing her 27-year career as a U.S. Representative, including this memorable moment. #reclaimingmytime
Speaking of incredible women, my deepest gratitude goes to Judge Rosemarie Aquilina for this powerful display of justice served.
Cecile Richards is reportedly planning to step down as President of Planned Parenthood. Sad news indeed, but if anyone deserves a break, it’s this tireless woman.
Looks like I’m not the only one obsessed with Fenty Foundation.
Happy 50th Birthday to LL Cool J! Let’s all celebrate with this brilliant list of 50 other things ladies love
Rock on! Pearl Jam will be returning this summer to play a series of concerts to fight homelessness in Seattle.
I finally made it through the latest season of Black Mirror and while it wasn’t my favorite overall, episodes like USS Callister were some of the series’ best. (I also recommend Hang the DJ).

I’m always on the lookout for a good biker jacket, and while I may never be able to afford one from Acne Studios, these options from Zara are a pretty good alternative
P.S. I once scoured the internet for this jacket (super flattering, but runs small).
Here’s a fantastically vivid choice to combat winter blues (or shock your co-workers). These sweaters offer a slightly more subtle version.
Trendy LA designer Anine Bing is having a rare sale - lots of great deals to be had, but they’re selling out fast.
Celebrity Hairstylist Kristin Ess has launched several new items to add to her impressive Target collection and I gotta say, I’m intrigued by this Rose Gold Temporary Tint
I don’t know what took me so long, but I finally tried Moroccan Oil a couple weeks ago and it is a #gamechanger. I’m using a little bit every morning before heat styling and my hair has never looked so shiny!
I’ve been searching high and low for this Isabel Marant jumpsuit and I finally found a great deal, but I was super bummed to discover my usual size 40 is too large. Let me know if you have any interest! (Fun Fact: it makes a cameo in Macklemore’s video for Thrift Shop)
