Best Laid Plans
I fully planned to take a break from the newsletter during our family vacation to Palm Desert this week, but as luck would have it, I’ve found myself holed up in our hotel room with a flu-ridden child. Remind me, what do they say about vacations vs. trips with kids? Grandiose daily excursions aside, we’ve simplified our plans with activities like poolside naps, exciting take-out meals, and family ping-pong tournaments in the game room. Strangely enough, it’s not so bad. I’ve been thinking a lot about the words of wisdom from the pediatric palliative care physician I posted a couple weeks ago. Maybe one day our kids will look back at this time of togetherness (and frequent ice cream bribery) with fondness. I’m pretty sure it will seal the deal for our seven-year-old if I finally join him on the water slide before we head home. If not, there’s always this brilliant idea for the next vacation.
P.S. In the interest of family time, I really will be unplugging for the next week. See you on the 9th!

I didn’t think anything good could come from the horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida until I watched these incredible students take matters into their own hands and DEMAND action among their legislators. In just a few days of swift action, these young people have honored those who perished and given the rest of us a much-needed glimmer of hope for the change future generations may bring.
Meanwhile, cowards and fools prevail.
Speaking of men who should be impeached, this one is long overdue
My heart goes out to Lena Dunham who shared her difficult decision to have a hysterectomy after years of struggling with endometriosis. May her story provide comfort and help to others in a similar situation.
The Olympics are nearly over and while I have never been one to watch hockey, the women’s final between the USA and Canada was one of the most exciting moments of the 2018 games. BRAVO to our gold-winning women!
Speaking of late-90s favorites, I cringe to think what my own time capsule would reveal. I ask you, who didn’t love Ja Rule back then?
It’s nearly Oscar time, aka the Super Bowl of my people. Place your bets! I’ve barely seen anything this year, but it’s sure to be an exciting evening regardless. #bringoprahback
God bless America. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I can’t remember the last time J. Crew wasn’t having a sale, but this weekend they’re offering up to 40% off the purchase of four items. I picked up this white swimsuit and a new pair of white jeans for our vacation (clearly I had a theme in mind).
These high-low Scandinavian bedroom designs are right up my alley, including this steal of a beautiful dresser
LOVE this idea for displaying oversized portraits of the kiddos.
My obsession with Gucci loafers has returned, yet barring an unexpected windfall, I’ll need to keep searching for the perfect dupe. I still love my Targucci mules, but now I’m eyeing these Steven by Steve Madden shoes.
Looking for the perfect socks? May I suggest these Cheryl Strayed approved pairs?
File this under ideas I wish I had: In 2015, entrepreneurs Jordana Kier and Alex Friedman decided to take on the archaic feminine hygiene aisle, introducing LOLA, a subscription service for 100% organic and non-toxic feminine products. It’s basically the Warby Parker of tampons. If you’re curious to give it a try, use code FRIENDSANDFAM through the end of the month and get 25% off a new subscription.
Along those same lines, I’ve been happily cavity-free since using a Quip. It’s basically the Warby Parker of toothbrushes. Cup of Jo is offering readers 15% off a new subscription until the end of the month.
Have a Healthy Weekend 🤧🤒😷
