Weekly thoughts, ideas, and information from one woman to another.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Hello friends! It’s been a crazy few weeks, but I’m glad to be back. What have I been up to? Take a guess…
A. Undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.
B. Planning to relocate my family to Europe.
C. Resigning from my job.
D. All of the above.
Last month, a routine check on my Crohn’s Disease set off a red flag and within a week I was on a surgeon’s table. Meanwhile, my husband concluded an extensive interview process and was offered a new job overseas. Change was clearly in the air. We’ve always dreamed of living abroad, especially as our family has grown. But much like surgery, it was never a convenient choice until it became impossible to turn down. Now that the dust has settled, I’m recovering well, contracts have been signed, and come June I’ll be a stay-at-home mom in a foreign city. Cue the Falco, because we’re moving to VIENNA, AUSTRIA. 😲 We leave in exactly one month, and my mental state is a rainbow of emotions, from excitement to shock, happiness, and anxiety… oh so much anxiety. I’ve never been to Austria, much less with three small children in tow. We have a darn near perfect life in Seattle; some would find it implausible to move away. But then I think about all the exploring we’ll do. And our kids learning German. And dressing our family like this. Experiences we’d never have if we stay put. So go we must, and if you’re up for it, I hope you’ll join me for the adventure.

One silver lining to sick leave is the opportunity to catch up on entertainment. Here’s everything I’ve been binging these past few weeks…
Wild Wild Country
How have I never heard this crazy history of Oregon? I watched every episode about three times due to heavy pain meds. By the time I finished, I was considering an all-red wardrobe. Here’s good bonus footage for anyone looking to dive further down the rabbit hole.
Obsessing over the Getty family was the perfect palate cleanser after WWC. Be sure to check out this terrific series airing now on FX.
My mom came to the rescue during my hospital stay and repaid her by sharing this gem.
Peaky Blinders
I finally gave this Netflix series a shot and it was well worth it. Two words: Thomas Shelby.
The Good Place
Another show that came highly recommended. Cute and witty, and who doesn’t like Kristen Bell?
Can’t stop thinking about this one, it was so, so good.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season Two
JEE-ZUS. Not gonna lie, watching this makes me relieved to be leaving the country.
Next on my wishlist:
This intriguing documentary and a remake of the 1975 mystery Picnic at Hanging Rock.
In other news…
Serial rapist finally going to jail. Make that plural. May this bring some measure of peace to the women who have endured their terror and fought for justice.
Kudos to women of Nike for speaking out against gender discrimination. #justdoit
Woman speaks truth to room full of assholes. Hang on, I forgot it’s only ok to sling insults when our President does it
I didn’t know who Michelle Wolf was before last weekend but consider me #obsessed. And be sure to watch her standup on choosing whether to have a baby.

My shopping habits these days are all about survival. Vienna is the 7th largest city in Europe with over 1.8 million people, but will their Amazon Prime be the same as our Amazon Prime?? I’ve been stocking up just in case… here are few of my purchases:
My beloved Fenty Foundation, the perfect eyeliner, and bronzer. And my favorite cleansing oil for removing it all.
Basics like this scoop neck t-shirt, black leggings, and one of these super comfortable wireless bras.
Olaplex Hair Perfector - a must for blondes.
Essential medical supplies, including this miracle sinus rinse (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it).
A new iPhone - I was all set to get the X, but this compelling video convinced me to go with the 8 Plus
And while I’ve been known to sing the praises of La Mer, this podcast episode turned me on to a ridiculously inexpensive alternative
