Seasons Greetings
Hello friends, how are you? We’ve enjoyed several travels and autumn adventures over the past few weeks (nail-biting elections notwithstanding). If you follow along on Instagram, you may have seen highlights of our day trip to Bratislava with President Macron or Halloween in London with Harry Potter. Though it was nice to bathe ourselves in english for a few days, we returned to Vienna as it entered its most magical season. The world-famous Christmas markets begin next week and we kicked things off with St. Martin’s Day on Tuesday, a holiday celebrated by kindergarteners marching down the street carrying homemade lanterns (with real candles!) It’s basically the cutest tradition ever with songs like this. Our first year living abroad has provided a steady introduction of local customs, like presents waiting to be unwrapped each month. One week, all the kids started wearing cotton hats designed specifically for fall weather. Another, we were served a specialty drink of barely fermented wine. As we look forward to the next surprise, there’s one American tradition we look forward to hosting next week. Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving (and don’t forget the Jack Horner Pie!) 🦃🍗🥧🥂

My heart is breaking for California. Forest fires are getting worse and worse up in Washington, but I can’t imagine the devastation they’re facing. Here’s how to help the recovery efforts.
Though the blue wave wasn’t quite a tsunami, I’m heartened by voter turnout during last week’s midterms - the highest since 1914!
A record number of female candidates ran and won, though let’s be clear to the men they replace: they are not your cleanup crew.
In business, researchers talk about the glass cliff: the fact that women end up elevated into leadership roles in times of crisis, making success a long shot. When many of those women fail to right a ship that someone else sunk, they end up shouldering the blame.
Medical professionals are sharing graphic images in response to the NRA’s tone deaf suggestion to “stay in their lane.”
“Do you have any idea how many bullets I pull out of corpses weekly? This isn’t just my lane,” Judy Melinek, a forensic pathologist, responded on Twitter. “It’s my fucking highway.”
On a related note, very happy to read this election news from our home state.
Oh, how I love this woman. Excited to read her new memoir (though perhaps not as excited as Oprah).
Speaking of women I love, bravo to the newly minted Dame Emma Thompson, accepting the honor in sneakers! 💞
Just when I was wondering what happened to Jenna Lyons.
I have no idea who Billie Eilish is, but I found this fascinating.
I’ve been on a solid streak of dramas recently, including Mindhunter (excellent), Bodyguard (ridiculous, yet gripping), and Homecoming (A for plot, D for wigs). This one is next on my list.
Guess it’s time to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a hairdresser, thanks to Ina Garten.
I’m looking forward to seeing the new Queen movie with friends next week. Warming up with this incredible performance.

I mentioned these teddy coats all over Europe a couple months ago. Another major fall trend was houndstooth and plaid, like this, this, and this. And Doc Martens!
These would be cozy pants to dress up for a holiday party. I’d pair them with a top like this or this and something sparkly like this.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this book after reading this profile on Ad-Rock and Mike D.
Time to figure out the metric system for my favorite pumpkin pie recipe.
P.S. These look incredible.
Have a Wonderful Weekend 🍁☕
